Writing again
I'm writing again! Miracles do happen! In the midst of graduate school application, I finally sat and penned the introduction to "Thicker Than Blood."

In Memoriam
Abraham, the Newfoundland we took care of last week, was put to rest. He had bone cancer and was in a lot of pain. On his last day on earth he ate fried chicken and ice cream. We look forward to seeing him in heaven some day. Rest in peace, Bubba.

I want a rematch with last week...
So last week pretty much kicked my proverbial patooty. Our house mates, Joy and Dan, had to spend significant time at the hospital and on the phone because Joy's mom was having serious problems, and was taken to the emergency. While twin-care is not normally a difficult chore, they were particularly fussy (maybe teething?) and drove me crazy!
In addition to this, Nathan and I were housesitting for the guys that Nathan worked for last summer. They went out of town for ten days, so we babysat two dogs and three cats. Supposedly there were three cats. Having only seen two at any time during those ten days, I am skeptical. Anyway, so the dogs consisted of a little dachshund named Penelope, and a massive Newfoundland named Abraham. Abraham decided around the time that the fireworks started on July 4th that he no longer need to piddle outdoors. The rug direclty beneath him seemed a perfectly reasonable place for that kind of relief. Unfortunately the next day he also stopped eating, and more or less moving. I don't know if you have ever tried to carry a Newfoundland outside and down fifteen stairs...I haven't either. I let Nathan do that. Anyway, due to extreme concern for their very old doggy (he's 11, and Newfoundlands generally have a 8-12 year lifespan), his parents came home a day early.
Unfortunately before that happened and I was relieved of sick doggy-duty, I got food poisoning. Oh yes, I spent my patriotic evening of the fourth puking up my guts, which I guess about sums up how I feel about patriotism right now anyway...The whole night and part of the next day I had no relief. I lost six pounds overnight, but I have a sneaking suspicion this diet is not FDA approved. Do not attempt to induce this kind of misery on yourself. Just trust me.
To make a long story short, I ate nothing for two days, and finally on Monday felt that I was capable of handling TOAST! Glorious toast! I even sprinkled a smattering of margarine on it! It was delicious! I am still not quite back to normal dietary standards...dairy still makes me feel ill and I find I can only eat about half of what I consider a normal portion size at a time. But overall I feel fine, and am taking note to always ask for my eggs WELL-DONE!

Experiencing the joy of music
Just have been thinking how grateful I am for the existence of music in its many genres. I have listened this afternoon to Lynard Skinnard, Chopin, Bach, Dvorak, Altan, the Lion King soundtrack...each one is so enjoyable and uplifting in an individualized way.
I decided on the music soundtrack for the youtube commercial I'm making for Heatherstone. I'm going to use Chopin's prelude "Tristesse." I think that Chopin post-dates my novel by about 15 years but shhhh.... don't tell.

Proof Copy
Today, I received the first copy of my proof! I am so jazzed. Already found a couple typos, but those are easily fixable. Still need a name for the series though...
